Brandy Zoom Cocktail
This cocktail, although served cold, is a real winter warmer — a combination of cream, honey and Tariquet Armagnac has only a momentary chilling effect after which you feel nice and cosy as if sitting near a fireplace covered with a blanket. Despite having half an ounce of honey in it, the cocktail isn’t too sweet. I checked the shaker after straining the mix out of it and found that most of the honey was left as a solid lump on the bottom. It was, actually, expected since honey doesn’t dilute well in cold water. I don’t know if the cocktail’s inventor took that fact into account, but kudos to him if he did, as to my taste, the sweetness was just right.
Brandy Zoom isn’t a dessert cocktail per se, but it can be successfully paired with chocolate. Specifically for the occasion Ivan created chocolate candies with vanilla filling which became a perfect accompaniment to this cocktail.
Although honey makes for a great sweetener I plan to use this recipe as a base for future experiments in which honey will be replaced with various liqueurs. First one on my mind is Frangelico — surely, you can’t spoil a cream cocktail with hazelnuts. Watch the space…
