Now this is a cocktail with a story. It was supposed to be Elderberry Lemon Basil cocktail but halfway through preparation I found that the elderberry syrup went off and I had to find another ingredient to replace it.
We spent a night in Coolangatta Estate. I think of it as a winery which offers accommodation and dining. A guy who was drinking beer in their restaurant probably thought of it as a pub with some overpriced house wines.
According to my notes, we visited 22 wineries in Tasmania, and 15 of them were in Tamar Valley; it took us two days to go through all of them. Some of the visits were quite memorable and this post offers the highlights of our journey.
Last year we were exploring the area around Terrigal. We looked for road signs pointing to places of interest, and it happened so that the first three directed us to liquor producers: DIstillery Botanica, Six Strings Brewery and Fires Creek Winery.
Before trying the first glass I asked for something to spit the wine into, but the guy replied reproachfully, “We don’t encourage that. Our wines are too good to spit them out.” A few minutes later I had to agree with that bold claim.
